Playing 13 Rummy is straightforward. First, there has to be at least two players and a maximum of 6. So, to set the game in motion, each player gets 13 cards from the deck. The game uses one or two standard decks of cards. Here’s a breakdown of how to play:

Forming sets and sequences

Your main goal is to create at least two combinations. Your combination can either be a set or a sequence. You need three or more cards of the same rank but different suits to create a set. But for a sequence, you need three or more consecutive cards of the same suit. You can also use Jokers to form your combination.

Players sequence

At each turn, you pick a card from either the closed deck or the open deck. After picking the card, you will have to discard one from your hand to the open deck.

Declaring

For a player to declare, they must put all 13 cards on the table facing down. A valid declaration includes at least two sequences, one of which must be pure (without a joker).

Winning

A player who declares correctly and meets all requirements wins the game. Note that where the sequence or set is invalid, the player scores penalty points based on the invalid card set or sequence.

Scoring

After a player declares, the next thing is calculating points. Points are determined by the value of cards left in other players’ hands. Face cards like Kings, Queens, and Jacks each count as 10 points. The points that the numbered cards carry are subject to their face value.

Note that players can determine when the game ends. It can be when a player reaches a specified point limit or after playing a specific number of rounds.
