Common Poker Terms You Should Know

Ace High

Ace high is a Poker hand created without an high card being paired with another high-value card. The highest card in this scenario is an ace card.

Aces Up

Aces up means two pairs, one of which happens to be ace.

Action

Action is a big word in Poker because there are many actions you can take, bet, raise, call, check, fold, split etc. These are the decisions you make based on the cards you get.

All-in

All-in means putting all your chips in the middle of the table for a bet.

Ante

Ante is a forced bet every player has to put in before the dealer deals the cards.

Backdoor

It is a draw that requires two consecutive rounds to finish up. A different hand must be made in contrast to what the player makes.

Backing

Backing refers to lending a player money to bet and receiving an agreed amount of their profits.

Bankroll

A bankroll is the total amount of money set aside by a player for all betting activities. It is usually an amount the player is comfortable losing.

Bet

Blind

A blind is a poker term that refers to a forced bet two players make before a betting round begins, and the dealer deals cards to all players.

Burn

To burn is to remove the top card from a shuffled deck and lie it facing down. It is a cautionary measure to prevent players from seeing the cards.

Bust

A bust refers to a draw that does not have its card complete or missed.

Buy-in

The buy-in in Poker is the lowest amount any player must have before he/she can be allowed to play at a Poker table.

Call

A call is a response to match the previous bet or to raise the stake in a betting round.

Check

A check action means the player intends to make no bet and moves the action to the next player.

Community Cards

Every player must create a five-card hand, and the community cards aid in doing that. They are found at the centre of the Poker table.

Dealer

The casino staff or player who deals cards to every player is the dealer.

Deuce

Deuce is a poker term for a card with a rank value of two.
